Monzo, Zopa and United Trust Banks among the big winners
You know what we think about different banks, money apps and building societies, but what do you think? Well, the 2026 British bank awards winners are chosen completely by customer votes, so they’re a good indicator of which ones are your favourites..
This year the ceremony took place on 21 May 2026, and after more than 200,000 votes from customers about the products and services they used in the past year here are the banks that took home the big awards.

What are the British bank awards?
The British bank awards are annual awards by our sister site Smart Money People. The winners are decided using customer reviews and ratings, with more than 200,000 votes cast.
There’s a massive 29 categories, including best bank, best mortgage broker and customer service champion.
Best British bank
Winner: Monzo
This the second year in a row Monzo have won, after Chase took it in the previous two years. Starling is also a past winner.
Monzo also picked up Best Current account provider and Best Children’s Financial Provider.
Best building society
Winner: Leek Building Society
I love a building society, owned by its members not shareholders, and Lee’s customers particularly liked the personal touch and transparency.
Best savings provider
Winner: RCI Bank
The shortlist contained plenty of big names, but RCI Bank took home the prize – as well as frequently featuring in our own best buy tables.
Best ethical finance provider
Winner: Triodos
For the fifth year in a row, Triodos won best ethical financial provider. And that’s no shock as Triodos really are head and shoulders above anyone else.
Best banking app
Winner: Zopa
Zopa took the best app crown from Monzo, with Chase coming in second this year. It was one of two awards for Zopa on the night.
Best personal finance app
Winner: Updraft
This award is for all the other apps, and Updraft – which offers simple debt consolidation for customers – proved most popular.
Best newcomer
Winner: LHV
Previous winners include iFast, Kroo, Tembo, Cheddar and Yonder, so this is always a category to keep an eye on.
The reviews on Smart Money People praise LHV for excellent interest and customer service.
Best mortgage broker
Winner: Tembo
This is the fifth year in a row that Tembo’s customers have voted the digital broker the best in Britain.
Best online trading platform
Winner: Trading 212
We’ve mainly covered Trading 212 for its high paying Cash ISA, interest on uninvested cash and cashback debit card – but its bread and butter is as an investing platform.
Best investments provider
Winner: Wealthify
Best business banking provider
Winner: Mettle
