Andy’s deals of the week 15 October 2022

My pick of the best offers and savings.

Every week I spend hours looking at discounts and deals to pick the good from the bad. I’ll only share ones which I think are worth considering – but remember you’re only saving money if you’re buying something you need and can afford.

Don’t forget to check out my Clever Cash Deals Instagram account. This is where I’ll share any flash offers that will have come and gone by the time this roundup is published.

This week’s deals

Barclaycard and Barclays: Earn up to 150,000 Avios

There’s a huge 100,000 Avios points up for grabs for people opening up both the Barclaycard Avios Plus credit card and Barclays Premier current account – and potentially another two lots of 25,000 on top if you’re new to one or both of those.

This 150,000 points, if converted to Nectar points, could be worth around £1,000 once fees are taken into account.

But you will need to have a high income and spend a fair whack to be eligible. Here’s everything you need to know.

American Express: Amex Gold £280 welcome offer

Amex has boosted the welcome bonus on the Preferred Rewards Gold card to 30,000 points, or 32,000 with a refer-a-friend link. This could be worth £280 when swapped to Nectar. More here.

John Lewis: Partnership Card 3x points

You can earn the equivalent of 3.75% back at John Lewis and Waitrose for 90 days with a new John Lewis Partnership card. More here.

Pub Fortnight: Free drink

It’s apparently Nation Pub Fortnight, and one chain of pubs is giving away a free drink to celebrate. More here.

Tesco: Xmas bonus deadline

You’ve got less than a week to pay into the Tesco Christmas Saver Scheme and earn a bonus of up to 6%. Here’s more.

Morrisons: £10 off via Amazon

If you have Amazon Prime you can get a tenner off your first three Morrisons shops over £50. More here.

Odeon: Free ticket now valid all week with O2 and Virgin

The free Odeon ticket via O2 Priority has got even better as you can now use it any day of the week – though that likely means you really need to be fast at noon on Wednesdays to grab your one. And of course, you can get this even if you’re not with O2 or Virgin Media. Here’s more.

Lionsgate+: Free 30-day trial

The streaming service Starzplay is now called Lionsgate+, and it’s offering a 30 day free trial to new customers. More here.

Spotify: Cancel now for 66% discount

I can’t promise this will work, but around this time each year is a cut-off for cancelling a Spotify Premium account and being eligible for a “welcome back” three months or the price of one deal in November.

However, unlike other years a similar offer did run in the late summer, so there’s a chance it won’t happen as normal next month. More here.

Savings: 2.75% easy-access and 4.55 1-year fix

Even more movement in savings rates this week with Santander and Cynergy offering 2.75% on easy access while Cynergy is also offering a 4.55% one year fix. These and all the other rates can be found in my savings best buy guide.
