Everything you need to help you on your mortgage journey
After months of planning, we’re excited to announce our new partnership with the award-winning mortgage broker, Tembo.
We listened to you guys, our audience, when you told us you wanted more mortgage content and tools, and we think we’ve done even better!
We’ve got a complete mortgage package for all of our readers, including:
- A mortgage affordability calculator to help you find out how much you could borrow and the monthly repayments you could expect to pay
- Live mortgage comparison tables so you can get the best rates in real time
- Helpful guides and articles from the Be Clever With Your Cash team, to help you get to grips with mortgages, whether you’re a first time buyer or are remortgaging
- Plus, free mortgage advice (worth up to £499*) from one of Tembo’s expert advisors when you take out a standard mortgage or remortgage

Mortgage affordability calculator
If you’re getting a mortgage or remortgage, the first thing you want to do is find out how much you can afford to borrow. And in a few clicks, our affordability calculator can do just that.
Enter a few details including your household income, your deposit and the property price, whether you’re self employed or employed and a couple of other bits, and you’ll get a solid estimate of what you could borrow, plus the monthly cost.
You can then click through to ‘get a personalised rate’ which puts you in touch with Tembo, and you may discover you can borrow more.
Whether you’re just curious about how much you can borrow or you’re further along in your property purchase, our calculator is a brilliant tool to get you started.
Try our mortgage calculator
Our mortgage calculator helps simplify things by giving you an idea of how much you could borrow and your likely monthly repayments.
Mortgage comparison tables
Our mortgage best buy tables show you the top mortgage deals in real time that are available to you, based on your circumstances. In a few seconds you can compare over 20,000 mortgages from over 100 lenders.
Again, just fill in a few boxes such as the mortgage type you’re after, the property value and your deposit, and you’ll be shown your top picks based on the lowest monthly cost (although you can filter by different measures).
You’ll then be given the opportunity to check your eligibility for the mortgage and can be connected to one of Tembo’s advisors.
We love this tool as it is always updated with the live rates, so you know what deals are available to you at any time.

Save up to £499* on mortgage advice
If you’ve ever used a mortgage broker, you’ll know they can charge hundreds of pounds for their service.
A broker can be really helpful when you’re looking for a mortgage or if you’re remortgaging, as they can search the market for the best deals and help you choose the right mortgage for you, depending on your circumstances.
Tembo usually charges a fee of up to £499 but if you go via Be Clever With Your Cash, this will be waived if you’re taking out a standard mortgage or remortgage. If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more complicated, like a buy-to-let mortgage or a mortgage including a guarantor, you may have to pay a fee.
You’ll be able to access this deal via our affordability calculator and our mortgage comparison tables (more on these below).
We’re really excited to be able to offer this deal to our readers and save them hundreds of pounds when getting mortgage advice.
Why are we working with Tembo?
We’re fussy about who we partner with and we only work with companies who impress us with their products and service. And we’re pleased to say Tembo ticks all the boxes.
We’re not the only ones who think so, either. Tembo’s been voted Best Mortgage Broker at the British bank awards four times in a row and they’re also rated 4.98 out of 5 on our sister site, Smart Money People, both of which are based on reviews from real customers.
