Clever Site 34: Get cashback from supermarket shops with CheckoutSmart

Make sure you check this app before going to the supermarket

I’m always raving about cashback through your credit card or sites like Topcashback, but CheckoutSmart is a great way to get even more on your supermarket shop.

** Until Sunday 28th June you’ll also get a bonus 50p cashback for any claim **

How it works

Think of it like a money off coupon you claim back after buying.

The app lists selected products which have a small amount of money off. Once you’ve claimed the cashback, you can transfer the money to your bank account.

There are often free items too, often new products manufactures want people to try.

How to claim the cashback

Like similar app Shopitize, it’s very easy and has instructions to take you through it.

First you select your supermarket, tap the products you are claiming for and then use your phone’s camera to snap the receipt.

Hit upload and after the receipt is analysed, the money will appear in the app’s account.

How much will it save?

As I write this, deals include 50p cashback on Kettle crisps and 10p off bananas. Previously I’ve had a free Mars advent calendar and free bottle of cider.

The amounts aren’t usually huge, but if there’s something you are buying anyway, you may as well claim the extra.

If you combine the deals with another clever app MySupermarket you can often get items for even less, or even get paid a few pence!

I’ve been using it fairly infrequently for over a year and have claimed around £31. Regular users should be able to double that.

Where to use it?

The list of shops is impressive.

All the major supermarkets are there, as they are with other apps. However, CheckoutSmart also includes your online shops, and you can also claim cashback at Aldi, Booths,  B&M, Budgens, M&S, Netto and much more.

What to watch out for

  • You’ll be charged 5% for any withdrawals under £20
  • Some deals are specific to certain supermarkets so check before you buy that you will be able to claim
  • There are often offers only for new customers, so again make sure it’s showing in your app before buying
  • You can’t claim for the same receipt on Quidco’s ClickSnap app, though you can on Shopitize and TopCashback

  1. This is a good read. Glad I came across this one. I like it when you said “The amounts aren’t usually huge, but if there’s something you are buying anyway, you may as well claim the extra.” I agree with you on that. Saving (no matter how much is the amount, matters) You may want to visit my blog on how to save more in grocery shopping – https://bit.ly/1K8Zft7
