What are the British Bank Awards?
The British Bank Awards are annual awards by our sister site Smart Money People. The winners are decided solely with customer reviews and ratings, with more than 178,000 votes cast.
There’s a massive 31 categories, including best bank, best mortgage broker and best business bank.
Best British Bank
Winner: Monzo
This one has been a won by Chase for the previous two years, but before that it’d been Monzo and Starling, and this year the trophy returned to Monzo.
Monzo also picked up Best Children’s Financial Provider.
Best building society
Winner: Newbury Building Society
I love a building society, and Newbury’s customers particularly liked the personal touch and transparency.
Best current account provider
Winner: Chase Bank
For the third year in a row Chase won best current account provider.
Best savings provider
Winner: Monument
The shortlist contained big names like Chase, and many providers we;ve featured a lot in our best buy savings tables such as Trading 212, Tembo, Raisin and Zopa.
The winner though was Monument, which might be a name that’s passed you by. But they’re frequently near the top of the tables, and their customers obviously value the service they provide to vote them in as winners.
Best ethical finance provider
Winner: Triodos
For the fourth year in a row, Triodos won best ethical financial provider. And that’s no shock as Triodos really are head and shoulders above anyone else.
Best banking app
Winner: Monzo
Third time in four years that Monzo has won, and a lot of that is down to the constant innovation with new features added to an already excellent user experience.
Best personal finance app
Winner: Chip
This award is for all the other apps, and Chip proved most popular.
Best newcomer
Winner: iFast
Previous winners include Kroo, Tembo, Cheddar and Yonder, so this is always a category to keep an eye on.
The reviews on Smart Money People praise iFast for making multi-currency banking really easy and convenient. We’ve not covered the bank in detail yet, but they have recently trialled 2% cashback on a debit card, so there could be more to come.
Best mortgage broker
Winner: Tembo
This is the fourth year in a row that Tembo’s customers have voted the digital broker the best in Britain.
Best online trading platform
Winner: Trading 212
We’ve mainly covered Trading 212 for it’s high paying Cash ISA, interest on uninvested cash and cashback debit card – but it’s bread and butter is as an investing platform.
Best investments provider
Winner: Moneybox
Best business banking provider
Winner: Mettle
