About Andy

After spending most of my life in London and Kent I moved to North Yorkshire in 2018. When I’m not helping others (and myself) save money, I’m probably listening to BBC 6 Music, playing tennis or binging the latest must-see boxset.

Prior to blogging, my background was in broadcasting. For more than a decade I worked in TV at the BBC on programmes such as The Money Programme, The Culture Show and Crimewatch.

In 2013 I moved to online financial journalism. First at the pioneering website MoneySavingExpert.com, then running the blog at The Money Advice Service from 2014 to 2018.

I set up Be Clever With Your Cash in February 2014 and went full-time on it in 2018 – growing it to one of the biggest independent personal finance sites in the UK.

You might have spotted me elsewhere in the media too. Since September 2021 I’ve been writing a weekly personal finance column for Metro newspaper. This is alongside my monthly column for Reader’s Digest magazine and freelance articles for other publications.

I was the resident money expert on Channel 5’s Shop Smart Save Money between 2018 and 2019. I’ve also appeared on programmes such as Right on the Money (BBC One), Rip Off Britain (BBC One) and Steph’s Packed Lunch (Channel 4). I’m a regular contributor to many BBC Radio stations and have been quoted in much of the national press.

Since March 2023, I’m editor-in-chief for the site, and building a team to support all the great content we produce.
