Clever Site: My Lost Account

Can’t track down an old bank, savings or building society account? MyLostAccount.org.uk could help. Here’s our guide.

It might be because you just haven’t used it for ages so the bank has made your account dormant. Did you move house without telling the bank? Lose all your paperwork? Whatever the reason, there’s apparently £500 million sitting unclaimed.

To see if you have any, or track down on you can’t find, you can use MyLostAccount.org.uk.

Simply click search and enter your details. The site then securely sends your information to all the major banks and building societies. It’ll take up to three months for the research to be completed.

It’s free to use the site. It’s run by the British Bankers’ Association (BBA), the Building Societies Association (BSA) and National Savings and Investments (NS&I), so it’s legitimate and safe to use too.

If you fancy a bit of heir hunting, bear in mind that you’ll have to prove your identity and that you have a right to the cash.
