Clever Site #31: Find free toilets near you

This website will help you find nearby facilities that won’t charge you to spend a penny.

We’ve all been there, out and about and desperate for the loo. You can sneak into a McDonalds or try a pub, but we all know there’s a chance we’ll get turned away as we’re not a paying customer.

I resent having to pay to use public loos, especially at train stations. They’re normally around 30p, but I once saw toilets (at London’s Trocadero) with a price of £1! Oh, and I’m not a fan of those individual ones you find (what if the door opens?).

If you have kids, I’m sure it’s all a major annoyance,

That’s where The Great British Toilet Map comes in handy.

How it works

It’s pretty simple. Just enter your location and a map will pop up with the nearest loos.

The info is crowd sourced so the results are mixed. Some will have opening hours and other info, others just state that there is one.

How much will you save?

Ok, this isn’t going to save you a fortune, but on principle I refuse to pay £1 to use the lav!

It’s worth bookmarking it on your phone for when you do get caught short.
