Cheap Night In – Wed 12/2

TV picks:

Over the last few years I’ve found BBC Two very “safe” and a little dull. Recently though it’s picked up and tonight is a winner.

The Restaurant Man

BBC Two, 8pm

If you live in London you might have been to (or queued for) one of Russell Norman’s ultra hip, and very tasty, restaurants – Spuntino, Mishkins and Polpo. He’s brilliant here as he follows would be restaurateurs setting up their own place. Tonight it’s Swedish food in Macclesfield.

Line Of Duty

BBC Two, 9pm

The first series of this police corruption drama had a top notch cast, most of whom didn’t make it to the end, but expect this second run to be hitting the same highs.

Inside No.9

BBC Two, 10pm

I love League of Gentleman, and I think cancelling Psychoville was a mistake, so there’s a high standard to keep up for Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton. Last week’s was interesting. Dark as you expect, not as funny as hoped. Worth sticking with as they always make something different.

Film pick

Attack The Block

Film4, 11.05pm

A late one, but the directorial debut by Joe Cornish (from Adam and Joe fame) is great fun, with thrills and scares in equal measure. It’s got the feel of those 80s kids vs aliens movies we all loved, but with added hoodies.
